The regular monthly Sapelo Saltwater Fishing Club meeting was held November 12, 2011. Approximately 75 members and guests attended the annual Thanksgiving meeting and meal. William McNeely, Tommy Wallace, Ronnie Rahn, Bob Snook, Bob Whitlow and Jim Reeves fried and smoked turkeys. Dot Wright, Lisa Young, Judy Davis and Joy Mercer brought their homemade dressing and Dot and Joy made the giblet gravy. I was unable to attend, but understand it was another great meal at the club meeting.
Perry Mitchell welcomed all and Bill Mercer blessed the food.
Bill Mercer made a motion to accept the minutes as presented and Dot Wright seconded and the motion carried. Bill Mercer made a motion to accept the financial report seconded by Cecil Rich and the motion carried.
Plans for the Christmas Party are; date is December 10th. Will meet at the clubhouse on Thursday December 8th around 6 P.M. to stuff the potatoes. Those volunteering to cook prime ribs were Gerald Sawyer and Jim Reeves. We still need people to cook prime ribs and make desserts. Everyone is reminded to bring a new, unwrapped toy to put under the Christmas tree for the empty stocking fund. Please make your reservations before December 1st to either Evelyn, at 832-2219, Jeannie at 832-2469 or Mamie at 213-4382. The purpose behind reservations is for estimating how much food will need to be ordered.
Ed Henderson announced that the McIntosh Chamber of Commerce is planning a fishing tournament. Call the Chamber of Commerce for details on the tournament.
It was announced that the Rotary Club is selling cookbooks with proceeds to go to the Food Pantries. Judy Davis announced the Garden Club Holiday House Tour. Call Judy for further details.
A gentle reminder to our boating, club members to please observe the no-wake areas around docks. Shore banks around the docks have a problem with erosion due to tides and don’t need additional problems created by boat wakes.
Offshore fishing – no report. Inshore – Fair for trout and Reds. Only a few anglers are willing to take on the winds and high tides. Sheepshead – good around treetops and pilings. Shrimping – this year has been off from previous years.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned in order.
